Sir,I was a staff of the Federal Ministry of Education-Abuja from 1997-2006 and resigned to pick up an appointment with the Modibbo Adama University of Technology- Yola, Adamawa State. I have been engaged in processing my gratuity since but unfortunately my file mischievously got missing at the last point of payment…f/no.55288. This is a clear case of bribe/corruption at work; it is either someone is interested in taking my entitlements since i am engaged elsewhere or perhaps they want to force me to part with something before bringing out the file. I am frustrated going to Abuja all the time and this is taking tolls on my present work.HELP ME PLEASE….is this how to serve the country?

Is bribery and corruption a worst enemy than armedrobbery?

Both are serious crimes against humanity. One is a capital offence and the other bribery becomes a capital offence depending on the level. For example a governor who embezzles resource meant for schools, hospitals etc is more than armed robbery because this is equal to jeopardizing the lives of those who cannot receive medical attention or education due to such high level robbery.

Corruption in Nigeria, who is to be blamed, the government or the citizens?

Both the government and the citizens are to be blamed. Fighting corruption should be a collective fight every Nigerian citizen should be involved with. Nigeria has lost billions of dollars from the looting of its treasury over the years. Until all those who stole and shipped our money to foreign countries decades ago are brought to book, this fight will never be a success.

What causes corruption in Nigeria

1. Weak Government institutions

5. Ineffective political processes
6. Culture and acceptance of corruption by the populace
7. Absence of effective political financing Poverty
8. Ethnic and religious difference Resource scramble

The fight against corruption in Nigeria is not working because of the following factors:

1. Insincerity of Government
2. Pre bargaining and Negotiation, highly placed officials caught of corrupt practices are made to part with some of their looted funds and are thereafter set free.
3. Low deterrent- the punitive measures for corrupt practices need to be strengthened
4. Lack of virile political and social movements to tackle corruption. The mass of the people are yet to be mobilises in the fight against corruption
5. Lack of access to public information. A lot of secrecy still pervades Government documents, and this underlies the need for the passage of the freedom of Information Bill presently before Nigeria’s National Assembly.
6. Insecurity of Informants. There is a need to enact laws to protect informants as well as reward them
7. Low public participation in Governance
8. Corrupt Electoral system
9. Nepotism
10. Systemic disorder
11. Weak Government Institutions

Which is worst, to give or to receive bribe?

Both the giver and receiver are guilty of bribery and corruption. The one who ask and mandates his fellow citizen to give before he or she can execute their duty or service like as if its their human right seems like the worst. Forced bribery…. someone I know have missed a flight because she didn’t pay a bribe and that is sure more than wickedness. We arrive at a state of hopelessness were bribery and corruption overrides and overrule simple human compassion and courtesy.

One of my family member was kidnapped since 3/10/12 on a land in akala village at modakeke ile-ife osun state.the case is at state CID Osogbo Osun state now.he is yet to be found-advice us d way forward

Use his mobile phone to track him. His mobile operator should be able to use his last cell location to track his port of call. Ask Mobile operator to give you data of all his last phone conversations and numbers that were involved in conversations and it might help take this lead. I hope this helps and wish you all the best. You might need a court injunction to force the operators to release this data, work hand in hand with the police. Good luck!!

We were hired to play a Governor’s Cup Competition (football) for our LG in 2011. Were told that the Local Government budgeted 8m naira for the competition, but at the end, they owed us over 70 thousand naira each. They did not even spend 2m of the said 8m budget. My question is, how can we or what can we do to get our money? What legal process can we do or follow to get the fruit of our labour? I need your help please.

The legal process can be expensive for you depending on how much is your budget in fighting the case, yes you can begin a legal process if you have a good lawyer who is willing to help you. However, I will advice you to use the media to trigger the effects of power of Authority over these corrupt officials. We do our best to follow up with most cases but were we have limited information it makes it difficult for us to push your case forward.

You can email the full story to us at: info@bribenigeria.com, we can conduct our own investigations and if we find credibility in your story we can help push for media publicity and prosecution.

Thank you for your interest shown on bribenigeria.com
